Student iRide Card – Fare-Free Program Important Update!

Changes starting May 1

The Student iRide SmarTrip card lets Arlington students ride ART for free. When value is added, it also works on Metrobus, Metrorail, and regional bus systems for the regular fare

Currently, students who do not have an iRide SmarTrip card have been able to ride for free by showing their student ID when boarding an ART bus. However, starting May 1, 2023, students must have an iRide card to continue to ride ART for free. After April 30, students without an iRide SmarTrip card will have to show their student ID and pay $1.00 cash when boarding an ART bus. Students without an iRide SmarTrip card or who don’t show their student ID will have to pay the regular fare of $2.00.

Students may get an iRide SmarTrip card at a Commuter Store or through the Transportation Coordinator at their school.
