ART Report in Regards to Current Service

Arlington Transit bus service has been hurt in recent months by several issues that are causing missed trips. ART’s contractor, National Express, has lost a number of bus operators to other companies in the region, and the resulting operator shortages are contributing to many missed ART trips each day. ART and our contractor also continue to deal with maintenance issues with our aging bus fleet, which is causing a number of buses to be out of service daily.

The County continues to work with our contractor to improve service and ensure each ART route is operating with the number of buses needed each day. The County is also looking at ways to improve how information is shared with our bus riders, so timely service alerts are provided to passengers once it is determined there will be trips missed and when service has returned to normal.

We apologize for these issues and will continue to do all things possible to hold our contractor accountable for providing reliable ART bus service.
