SmarTrip

SmarTrip is the simplest way to pay for your ride, because you won’t need to worry about having exact change, you can use it on ART and many other area transit systems including Metro, and it’s the only way to get FREE bus transfers and fare discounts!

To pay using SmarTrip, just touch your card to the red bullseye on top of your bus’s farebox. The correct fare – or discounted transfer – will be deducted from your account automatically.

Get your SmarTrip card for $2 at:

  • Any Commuter Store or Mobile Commuter Store
  • CommuterDirect.com
  • Metrorail Station Vending Machines
  • The SmarTrip App

Then load it with money or a pass, and you’ll be ready to ride!

 

Fare Discounts

Seniors age 65+, people with disabilities, and Arlington K–12 students can purchase special SmarTrip cards that deduct discounted fares each time they ride. Click below to learn more and apply:

Who can join iRide?

  • Any Arlington County student registered in Kindergarten–12th grade can sign up to receive a Student iRide SmarTrip card

What does iRide offer me?

  • Once you have your iRide card, you can ride any Arlington Transit bus, plus several select Metrobus routes, for FREE – just tap your card when you board
  • Routes you can ride for free with iRide:
    • ALL Arlington Transit routes
    • Metrobus A1X, A11, A12, A25, A27, A40, A49, A58, A66, A70, A71, A76, F20, F26, F44, F50, F60, F61 and F62 ONLY

How can I get an iRide card?   

  • Middle and high school students at Arlington Public Schools can request an online registration form from their school’s Transportation Coordinator
  • Any student – including elementary, homeschooled, and private school students – can get a new card at any Commuter Store in Arlington
  • All students must show one of the following proof-of-enrollment documents to sign up:
    • a valid Arlington County student ID
    • StudentVue, Parentvue, or other online portal of a home/private school program
