On Monday, August 22, a new Arlington Transit – ART bus route, ART 54, will start service. ART 54 will connect the Dominion Hills, Madison Manor and Highland/Overlee Knolls neighborhoods with the East Falls Church Metrorail Station via 10th Rd. N., N. Livingston St., Wilson Blvd., N. McKinley Rd./N. Ohio St. and Washington Blvd. See the route map on the right.

The new service will operate every 24 minutes on weekdays during morning and afternoon rush hours. A 26-foot medium-duty bus will be used on the route. View the new ART 54 schedule (PDF).

The Metrobus 1E route will be discontinued on August 19 and will no longer provide service in Dominion Hills. ART 54 will operate service through the Dominion Hills and Madison Manor neighborhoods. Riders who take the 1E from Ballston to Dominion Hills (and vice versa) can take Metrobus 1B to the Wilson Blvd. & Livingston St. bus stop and transfer to ART 54. The morning and afternoon timetables have been timed so that transfers from Metrobus 1B can be easily made to ART 54. The tables below show the times Metrobus 1B and ART 54 will serve the Wilson Blvd & Livingston St. bus stop to make a transfer.

Prior to making final service recommendations, County staff attended two community-sponsored meetings in March and April and a meeting with the Madison Manor Civic Association in May to get feedback from residents. The new service will be evaluated 12 months after implementation for service effectiveness, on-time performance, ridership productivity and potential relocation/consolidation of bus stops.
