Mystery Riders Needed to Evaluate ART Bus Service

July 26, 2016

Updated to include more information about applying to participate in the mystery rider program.

ART – Arlington Transit is looking for volunteers to be “mystery riders” on ART buses. Mystery riders are like secret shoppers. They ride the ART buses just like regular bus riders and report back to Arlington Transit about their experience. During a bus ride mystery riders are asked to take note of the bus driver’s performance and the condition of the bus. Things to look for include if the driver is friendly and professional with riders, if the driver is operating the bus smoothly and safely, if the bus arrived on time and if the bus is kept clean.

Mystery riders are needed to highlight positive riding experiences as well as issues that need improvement. Mystery riders are needed to cover all of ART’s bus routes at all times of day, evenings, weekdays and weekends. Arlington Transit is happy to work with your schedule to determine which ART bus routes, days and times would work best for you to evaluate bus service.

Prior to evaluating service, mystery riders will need to attend a training session at the Arlington County Building located in Courthouse. The next training session will be held in early September 2016. During training, mystery riders will learn about what to look for when they evaluate service. Mystery riders will be provided with evaluation forms to use (formatted for Excel) and either gold ART bus tokens or money on a SmarTrip card to cover the cost of riding the bus during evaluations. Mystery riders will need to be able to either email, mail or hand deliver their evaluation forms back to Arlington Transit and may be contacted for follow up information on their evaluations.
