ART on Layar Reality Browser
This free tool works with Android devices and iPhones (3GS and newer). The technology is called "Augmented Reality," and allows users to look through their phone as if they were going to take a picture, and see superimposed information about their surroundings.
Layar uses a combination of the phone’s camera, compass and GPS data to identify the user’s location, retrieve useful data about the user’s surroundings, and overlay that information over the camera view.
The ART data layer shows the direction and distance to ART stops, and provides ART RealTime arrival information. Users can also view bus stop locations in list or map views.
There's also data for Capital Bikeshare locations and WalkArlington Walkabout points of interest. See the ART on Layar page for more information.
Capital Rails
App for iPhone and iPad. This app provides real-time Metrorail arrival information for the stations you're interested in. Rather than scroll through arrivals for all train stations and destinations, every rider can easily customize “Capital Rails” to only display their favorite stations. It's easy to change your favorites and create a new, custom list of stations for each trip. Preview on iTunes.
SpotCycle
A Capital Bikeshare app for iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android. Let's say you took ART and Metrorail to get to work this morning, and now you'd like to run a quick lunchtime errand using Capital Bikeshare. This app will help you locate stations near the start and end points of your trip and tell you the status -- how many bikes and empty docks are available. Spotcycle - your personal bikesharing assistant.
