Proposed Fare Increase for ART and STAR Zone 1

February 20, 2014

Arlington Transit is proposing to increase ART bus fares and the STAR Zone 1 fare. If approved, the fare increases would go into effect on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. This would be the first time that ART has increased bus fares and the STAR Zone 1 fare since 2010. View the fare increase proposal to the County Board.

 ART Bus Proposed Fare Increase

  • ART base fare would increase from $1.50 to $1.75
  • ART discounted fare for seniors, middle and high school students, and people with disabilities would increase from $0.75 to $0.85
  • If approved, the fare increase would go into effect on July 1, 2014

The additional revenue generated from the increased fares would help offset increased contractual costs for operation and maintenance and the cost of additional ART bus services.

If you can't attend the community meeting or public hearing, you can comment online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/ARTFare

STAR Zone 1 Proposed Fare Increase

  • STAR Zone 1 fare would increase from $3.00 to $3.50 per trip
  • The fare for Zones 2 and 3 will stay the same
  • If approved, the fare increase would go into effect on July 1, 2014

The additional revenue generated from the increased fare would partially cover higher expenses from contractors supplying STAR services.

If you can't attend the community meeting or the public hearing, you can comment online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/STARFare

Public Hearing and Community Meeting

The public will have three opportunities to comment on the proposed fare increases:

  • Visit www.arlingtontransit.com/CBMProcedures to sign up to speak at the hearing or to comment on-line. You may also call the County Board Office at 703-228-3130. On-site registration will begin one hour prior to the start of the hearing.
