New ART Buses on a Route Near You!
The ART bus fleet continues to improve with the recent delivery of four new buses to Arlington County. Eight more buses will arrive in September with all twelve buses expected to be placed in service by October 1, 2010. The buses are low floor and ADA-compliant, fueled by compressed natural gas, and 31 feet long, shorter but similar to those currently being used on many ART routes.
An additional six buses have been ordered using two stimulus grants and are expected to arrive by spring and summer of 2011. Three of the buses will be similar to the ones arriving this fall, while the other three buses will be CNG Hybrids with a compressed natural gas hybrid-electric drive system that will reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Look for one of the new buses on a route near you!
