Metrobus Changes Starting Dec. 19

December 6, 2010

On December 19, Metro will be adjusting several of its Metrobus routes to provide faster, more reliable service. The changes made in Virginia will mainly affect Metrobus riders along Columbia Pike. How will the changes impact you?

The 16W route eliminated
Starting on December 19, there will be no more Metrobus service on S. George Mason Dr. between Columbia Pike and Leesburg Pike. Those who currently ride the 16W have a couple of options:

  • Catch the 16H at S. George Mason Dr. and Seminary Rd. (same as the current 16W stop) and ride along Columbia Pike up to the Pentagon and Crystal City Metro stations.
  • Take the ART 45 bus between Columbia Pike and Four Mile Run Drive.
  • Those who board between Four Mile Run Drive and Leesburg Pike can catch ART 75 along S. George Mason Dr. between S. Frederick and S. Dinwiddie Streets. ART 75 operates between the Shirlington Bus Station and Virginia Square, including a short distance on Columbia Pike where riders can transfer to the 16ABDEJP routes to the Pentagon, 16GHK to Pentagon City and Crystal City, or, starting December 19, the 16F to Federal Triangle.

Additional One-Seat Routes to DC
Two additional Metrobus routes will provide one-seat service into DC starting on December 19. The new 7Y route will provide service through the Shirlington Bus Station to the Pentagon and continue across the Memorial Bridge to the Federal Triangle Metro station. The 16F route travels along Columbia Pike (with a stop at S. Columbus Street) to the Pentagon and will continue across the 14th Street Bridge to the Federal Triangle Metro station.

Make the 7Y and 16F Work for You!
Take advantage of the new 7Y and 16F one-seat services to DC. Commuters will have several options for getting downtown:

  • 16ABDEJP and 16K go to the Pentagon Metro station where riders can catch the 7Y or 16F downtown.
  • All 13A and 13B riders will continue to receive transfer opportunities at the Pentagon. Riders to Foggy Bottom will be able to connect to the 7Y while riders to the Smithsonian and L’Enfant Plaza will be able to transfer to the 16F.
  • Those who usually catch the Orange line at the Ballston or Virginia Square Metro stations can hop on ART 75 to Shirlington and use the new 7Y service to downtown.

Additional Metrobus changes will be taking place in Maryland and DC. Brochures, bus signs and handouts will be available soon to explain all service adjustments. To learn more, visit www.wmata.com and www.arlingtontransit.com.
