Metro Closures over Martin Luther King Weekend
If you have plans to venture into DC this weekend, you may want to build some extra time into your travel plans. Metro will be closing the Foggy Bottom Metrorail station over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend to perform track work. Closures will start at 10 pm on Friday, January 14, and last until closing on Monday, January 17.
Service on the Orange and Blue lines will end at Rosslyn and pick back up at the Farragut West Metro station. Metro will be providing free shuttle buses between the Rosslyn, Foggy-Bottom-GWU and Farragut West Metrorail stations, but warn that wait times for the shuttles could be long. Customers should plan on an additional 40 minutes if they need to pass through the work zone.
Virginia riders headed into the city are encouraged to use the Yellow line to get downtown to L'Enfant Plaza where they can transfer to the Orange and Blue lines. There are also several Metrobus routes, such as the 38B (from Ballston, Clarendon or Courthouse) and the 5A (from Rosslyn) that head into downtown.
Unsure of how to get to where you need to go? Use the new Point-to-Point web tool to find an alternative route into the city using Metrobus and other regional bus routes. It'll save you time and keep you from waiting out in the cold for a shuttle bus!
