Improve Your Health by Riding ART
You know that riding ART can make a positive impact on your wallet, but did you know that it can also have a positive impact on your health?
A recent study conducted by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) shows that using public transportation has many health benefits, including reduced chance of traffic related injuries, reduced exposure to pollution, increased physical fitness and reduced emotional stress.
If you think about it, it makes sense. By opting to take transit to work or school you reduce your chance of getting into a car accident and getting injured or even killed. It also means that less cars will be on the road, reducing the amount of pollution that is emitted into the air. Since ART buses run on compressed natural gas, your commute will be more air friendly than if you took other modes of transit.
Walking to and from the bus stop may not seem like much, but any physical activity you get during the day goes a long way to keeping you healthy and beats sitting in a car for long periods of time. Riding transit can also help reduce emotional stress (road rage anyone?) and help improve your access to economic, social, and recreational activities.
Now that you know a little more about the benefits of taking transit, check out the ART routes around Arlington and find one that works best for you.
